Limestone Surfaces in Oxnard
Residential Limestone is very popular. Limestone is a heavy rock, yet soft and porous – making it vulnerable to breaking, cracking and scratching. When countertops are made of limestone, they tend to absorb stains. Limestone surfaces, including limestone flooring, require sealing so that dirt and grit don’t become embedded. Limestone flooring should be avoided in high traffic areas or in areas where breakage may happen. GRANITE MYTHS:

Granite stains easily. True and not true. It is actually less absorbent than most surfaces but will take on dark spots if stains (such as oils) are left to soak in.
Stains in granite are permanent. Mostly NOT true: stains can usually be taken out with a special paste or poultice.
Granite and marble are essentially the same. Not true: though both can be polished, they are essentially very different. Marble is metamorphic while granite is igneous.

SALTILLO FACTS & TIPS:

“Super Saltillo” is regular Saltillo rounded and made more perfect after the drying phase of production. Super does not mean better. The more authentic, handcrafted-looking type is the regular one. For a more uniform and flatter version Super Saltillo is your better bet.
Sealing the sides of Saltillo tile is not a good idea as can interfere with grout application and cause problems later on.
Don’t use water-based sealers for exterior installation. Oil-based sealers are better: just as strong and last longer. Also, you can apply a water-based sealer to an oil-based one but not the other way around!

TRAVERTINE TRUTHS:

The size of the holes can be a good indication of its value: the smaller holes usually indicate a better cut.
It is a type of limestone and not marble.
Unpolished travertine should definitely be sealed!
